This german company (Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG) started producing petrol engine vehicles in 1912 (also producers of steam locomotives, tractors, trucks and military vehicles), but they struggled financially through the decades. In 1931, Hanomag had control of 25% of the small car market in Germany, taking second place to Opel. They were trailed by DWK (19%) and BMW (17%). The following year, they gambled on concentrating on a single series, the 1.1litre (later renamed the Garant). The gamble worked, and soon it was necessary to run the plant in 2 shifts to meet the high demand. By 1936, Hanomag celebrated building its 65,000car.
The model in the ad was only made for 1 year, and never received a 'real' name. It was always referred to as the 1.3litre. By 1940, Hanomag turned to war production and began producing 4.2litre, 6cyl Maybach engines for military vehicles only. although prototypes were made, no cars were produced post war (the 1.3 litre was Hanomag's last production car). I'm pretty sure they have one of these in a museum in TN, but I can't remember the name of it.
Hope this helps.
