so icbc tells me my car is only worth 6200$, well i told them its not enough and as always i need to show them how much classic cars are really worth.

so anyone with a 58-67 beetle that has 30 min to spare and help me out send me a pm.

Tell them no problem, but im keeping the motor. What kind of crap is that $6200 my ass.

Good thing is you should not have much of a problem because its difficult to buy a Pre 68 beetle here for cheap.

I have a 1960 thats original paint and solid as a rock, but it looks like a hood ride because its original and weathered and there is no way i would let it go for less then $3500. and its running a 1600SP with Kads, has a Custom 3\" narrowed beam, some H4s and is pretty much stock other then that.

And i know i would get the money for it to.

If your beetle was a solid car you should get $10000 for it.

That's not a half bad idea. Did you try that young man? \"I'll take $6200 but I am keeping the motor and every goodie attached to the car??\" You may want to get someone like Duane's German Autohaus or K-Roc to give you a written quote to build your motor again. Just a thought.

not trying to be a dick here young fella, but didn't you pay $5000 for it just a couple months ago? If its worth $10,000 like suggested so foolishly, why did it take Josh so long to sell it for $5000? The way I see it, youre already making a $1200 profit. Ever wonder why we pay so much in insurance fees?

Don't get me wrong, it was a nice car, but maybe you shouldn't get greedy.

Amishrabbi may of been able to pick it up for that much. However to replace the car with one equally as done as that one is a harder proposition...

i picked it up cheap becasue josh needed room and money for his new beetle, im sure he could have got more if he had the time to wait for the right buyer.

also i have reciepts for things done after i bought it for $1500, so really im losing 300$ on it. there is 5000 in reciepts for the engine in parts alone, and the engine has 7000 miles on it ie:brand new.

im not looking for 10 000 either matt, just a more fair price considering i do need to buy another pre 67 to replace this one. and it isnt as though icbc is in the red, they are posting record profits, so really we pay high insurance cause they want us to

the previous owner of my car had it appraised in 1996 by a company called Laing appraisals. He gave me the letter head, and the receipt for the appraisal. PM me if you think this would help. My car as well is a 1963 beetle.

I would say that $6,200 looks to be fair. If you get a good buy back on the car it would be a great deal.

The thing that most people dont understand is that it does not matter what you paid for the car. The car could have been a gift, an inheritance, you could have bought the beelte in 1980 for $300 dollers, it does not matter.

What icbc has to give you is Fair Market Value to replace the car you had. And thats not the amount of money it takes to buy a similar 1962 with a 1600cc that they find in the buysell or craigslist.

He paid them what they were asking to insure the car he had, and now its their responsibility to give him what it takes to replace that car.

P.S. the Nada guide does not apply, because the car in question is not Stock.

Another thing you could do is to say, that if they are unwilling to pay you for your modifications then you will tow the car home (or whereever) And replace the modified parts with stock.

This may work, as i know people who have done this, including a friend of mine. We took his car and removed the wheels and replaced with OEM and stereo because ICBC did not want to pay.

You would then take the motor out, put in a 1200CC which you should be albe to get for dirt cheap, it doesnt even have to run, and remove and replace whatever else you want then send it back and take your $6200.

I would not accept $6200 for a clean car.

correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think it was a rust free car
did it have rust in the heater channels and the pan?
i think most of the money was in the engine with a nice DRIVER car.
the car looked great in pics,as my previous statment i think 6200.00 is fair

Can you replace that car with the mods for $6200 though? That is what insurance is for. The replacement cost of the vehicle.

icbc only offers replacement value covergae on newer vehicles and its an extra, or it was last time I checked, so good luck with that, the the 6200 and ask for the motor, drop the illusions of $10000 payouts for an old vw, unless its a show car with a magazine spread your not likely to get much more.

Yes it was far from a rust free car that's why I sold it and started over from one south of the boarder.
Just guessing but I probably had $9000ish into it over the years, but that doesn't mean that's what it's worth. I got years of fun/use out of it and they are going to hit you with the wear and tear/ depreciation line.
What are you asking for?? will they let you swap the motor for the original 1200cc I gave you? that way it's #'s matching and gotta be worth barret jackson prices

6200 and the car is not to much lower than what im looking for for the car, BUT i still have to make my case that the car is worth more than 6200.

for the last time i never said i was trying to get 10 000 for it, telling icbc thats what its worth maybe because we all know icbc will go lower than you expect even if you expect fair.

now, as thats settled the point of this thread was to have some people assist me, a few people have responded and thank you. if you dont want to help fine, then fuck off and stop telling me that trying to get enough money to replace my beetle is a bad thing.
