Unsuccessful Beach Trip Last Night
« on: July 31, 2007, 09:03:19 AM »
I have a good story about last night. It was nice out, so I decided to take the girlfriend and the bug to the beach and sit on a patio. I drove the car from Surrey to Langley the day before and had the same issue.

On my first trip.... After driving for about 45min it seemed like it was out of gas. I checked the tank and lots of fuel there, checked the filter and there was fuel there. Checked the points and dist cap, everything seemed good. I got back in started it up, ran perfect all the way home. I thought maybe a wire from the coil had come loose and just made contact again. Anyway, checked the wiring out when I got home and everything seemed fine.

Then last night when I decided to go to the beach (of course I brought 0 tools) same thing after about 45 minutes. This time messed around back there and same thing; fired up, although I again didnt find anything wrong. Anyway, I turned around and headed home, it periodically did this throughout my trip home. One time it wouldn't start back up. So I modified an old set of points I had in the car into a flat head screw driver and pulled the top off the carb. The float bowl was empty, ahhh!!! the problem. I checked that the fuel pump was pumping, that worked fine. It ended up being the needle valve sticking in the closed position.

I managed to get the car to James' House in cloverdale, but he wasnt home ;), anyway eventually made it home and replaced the needle valve. Moral, I guess bring at least a screw driver with you!

I also spotted Bill at the beach with his new ride!!! Looked great.

I saw you stuck on the hill on 64th when I was heading back in to the yard and was going to turn around but as I started to make my turn I looked back and you were gone.

And I have a truck full of tools!

Ya I'll say.

Reminds me...
Coolest thing happened at work Monday morning  , couple of 30's hot rods roll in , super cool mega $$ cars . And I'm not talking stockish cruising motors.  These things were wicked , rumbling and shaking the windows .  Turns out they are from Kelowna and had a problem with one of the cars. They had arranged to borrow a hoist to fix it. Next thing we knew the parking lot was filled with a group of about ten hot rods, not a trailer in sight .   I just thought it was pretty cool because , not only do they drive their cars on long trips but they didn't even just throw it on a trailer at the first sign of trouble . They started wrenching , fixed it and hit the road .
