I agree !In thelate 70 or early 80s can't remeber date? I was working in Kamloops @ the pulp mill in the winter. With wind chill it was -50 -55 Thompson was frozen over every one just left their cars running or plugged in. I had a 73 westy came out after work went to start it and it wouldn't crank. Decided to push start it with a company truck . I got someone pushing her with the truck, I dumped the clutch and the back wheel locked up skidded to a halt! Oil was so thick it wouldn't turn! I had it towed to a garage and had the engine thawed out. Had a battery blanket put on and a pan heater and lighter oil it made all the differance!

I forgot about the pan heater. Had one on my '67. Yup it was a must have.

Yea I jusr ripped the Defrost vents out of the front just have the fresh air vents going to the windows now, I might put a fan on there see how that works out. I aint got nothin on you guys sounds like some Chilli Stories.

Hows driving the Old Busses (pre 67)? did they ever have defrost? or heat? looks like the defrost in those old suckers was pretty shitty at best

My dc would stay clear as long I was moving and the air was blowing.. Stop.. and get out the towel;)
This year gonna try and 'improve' the system.

MY 73 westy had a gas heater under the back seat it threw a lot of heat!

The trick with busses is to hang a heavy curtain behind the front seat. That way you are only heating the cab area. My 61 panel stayed toasty up front with a curtain up and the dash vents would keep the bottom half of the windshields clear. I drove it three winters like that. Reduction boxes and rear engine is almost as good as 4 wheel drive in the snow. For the last 8 years I've had something air cooled or just plain old as a year round daily driver. The only non VW was a 55 Pontiac that had heat and meager defrost and no wipers. Drove the oval one winter with no wipers too. Rain X is my friend. My oval has been my daily again since last September and will most like continue through this winter again.
