How Much For A 65 With 40k Miles

Ok, it's one of those stories you hear about every so often, my friends neighbour was walking by the other day when I was over with the 68, saying he had a beetle too. It's a 1965 that he bought new, and has not driven in 35 years because of a health issue. It's in his garage with 40,000 miles. I have not seen it yet, but intend to get back to have a look at it. Difficult to say, but if it's as good as it sounds, what's it worth? A 50 year old car with that mileage must be worth? $5k, 10k, 15k, I want to offer him cash straight up when I see it but don't want to offend him. I can always do the \"what do you think it's worth?\" line but this is a nice older gent and want him to be happy in that he's not being taken, and know it would go to a good home. thoughts.....

It's also hard data that you could print off and show the owner. Just take a good hard look at the car - high retail to me would be very near perfect

I think he probably paid 2500.00 for it. Take a good look at the important stuff and make him an offer. The worst he can do is counter-offer for a larger sum.

brian, it sounds like a great car. scoop that badboy up. depending on the condition, i bet it could be had for $4500 +/- a couple bucks.

you know where to look for all the troubled areas (pans, channels, bumper brackets, spare tire well, rear crossmember, parcel tray, etc). turn the motor over by hand to see if it turns. look for accident damage. leaks? window rubber? headliner torn?
