Disc Brake Kit
« on: April 09, 2007, 10:16:08 PM »
Hey guys,

Took the vert in today to Dales allignment, Thought we were ahead of the game today and maybe could drive the vert around the block today (still some stuff to do) ... While he had it up on the hoist he noticed that the front brake hoses were buldging and leaking at their ends... (they apply the break while doing the allignment). We bought the Disc brake kit from airspeed (700$ wide five kit) and they have 0km's on the brakes... I was surprised to see that happen, has anyone else experienced this problem??? Also a heads up to the people that have this kit on their cars, go check your hoses! There the one's that use this braket:

Now onto fixing the problem, anyone got any suggestions on a good hose to use and were to get some?

It happens, I had to change out one on my setup. You should probably look at getting braided brake lines.

I'm guessing the split still has cable brakes?

Bruce,
Although I have heard that too. I have never seen proof. There is now teflon coated hose out there that supposedly eliminates that problem. However like anything if you regularly inspect it and use it properly you may not have a problem. Your mileage may vary.

brake hoses I have used for my bikes in the past come with the S/S hose covered by a clear vinyl hose.  I took my BMW hoses and wrapped then with shrink wrap and sealed the ends so grime doesn't get into the hose.

earls, russel have DOT brake lines for certain applications
the only downfall to ss brake lines is that they are very hard to test when they begin to fail.
Like bruce says they trap dirt and wear fast. (sometimes)

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Think we are going to get some SS lines, since the car will be driven on sunny days only...
Now we just gotta get those on, allignment done, just waiting for a few people to finish up their jobs on the car...
Then we should be driving
