Anyone know if they will pass a government saftey inspection?
Or do I need full bumpers?

Depends on who is doing the inspection and how \"by the book\" they are. Technically they will not pass. You need full side to side coverage.

Here's the actual wording:

12 A motor vehicle, except a motorcycle, shall be equipped with a front bumper, and where a replacement bumper has been installed, it shall give substantially the same protection as the bumper originally installed by the manufacturer.

A motor vehicle shall be equipped with a rear bumper where the manufacturer of the vehicle installed a bumper, and where a replacement bumper has been installed, it shall give substantially the same protection as the original bumper.

A bumper shall be securely fastened to the vehicle, and the bumper bar or brackets shall not be broken, loose or missing.

A bumper must not have a sharp or ragged edge and must not protrude beyond the side of the vehicle.

how much protection do the stock bumpers really give?

you would think a beetle friendly inspection agency wouldnt care to much

The Wolfsburg West bumpers are beautiful, great deal. Even the brackets/braces are really nice and fit perfect..

A stock set of bumpers on a lowered car doesn't offer much protection any way, does it Larry? But if you want bumpers that last, unlike the cheap blades and guards you can get, the WW stuff is the best. You could find a German blade and guards and then have them chromed, but the time and money may not be worth it. I bought WW bumpers back in early 90's and they still look as good today as they did back then. It may cost a little more up front, but it is worth it for the long haul.

when I use to do govt inspections at the shop the inpsections are \"grey\"  Its becomes more of an interpretation, not always black and white.

Thing about blades ( I have cheap ghetto ones) is that its a visual pass. The authorities normally wont hassle you with Tbars but from time to time a newbie rookie may pull you over.

I would imagine a \" up 'n up\" inspection facility would fail you instantly with tbars.

well the bumpers on my 63 are re chromed original germans (sweet) but this car won't suit over riders

Yeah i'd get it inspected with the bumpers, then remove them. I've ran T-bars before for years and never got a ticket or anything. I love the look of T-bars makes the car look more mean.
