Importing A Car Without Motor?
« on: March 25, 2007, 02:06:47 PM »
So before anyone posts me a link to the search function I just spent the last 2 hrs. reading old posts and got a lot of good info, but I just want to be certain

I'm seriously considering buying a US drag car (street legal) and renting a uhaul trailer down there and draging it home. I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I send him a cheque sight unseen.

Now this is what I gather:
-you have to fax the pink slip, bill of sale or receipt showing how much was paid and maybe your drivers licence 72 hrs in advance.
-someone mentioned the above doesn't need to be done if car has no motor and considered a \"parts\" car, can
anyone confirm.
-this car is painted and only needs a motor and is otherwise complete whats the chances i'll get hung up at the border with mr orficer not buying the parts car pitch?

Now for my dilemma......therioretically I can't enter the states because yours truly has an almost 9 yr old DUI criminal record from being an idiotic 19 yr old.
I have crossed the border several times without a hitch even travelled to Bali Indonisia without trouble,Knock on wood
I have always had my licence/ passport checked but never been hauled out. What's the chances that if I was to fax this info in they would flag me and when I mosied on into customs my ass would get thrown in jail.

I really want this car and it would suck royally if I missed out on it. any help/ info would be appreciated.

thanks josh

If you want to register it you will have to follow that process, Buddha Boy and myself grabbed a 61 parts car out of Seattle and brought it back the same day as it was for parts. The car was also in an undriveable state.

Also if you have crossed the border before andhave been checked, I suspect that you will be ok, you will most likely only go to jail in the event you have been refused entry before and were told not to return and you try to enter the country.

The fax at the Blaine truck crossing is (360) 332-2639.  Export office hours are M-F 8:00am-3:30pm.  Closed on USA holidays.  E-mail:   blaine-export@customs.treas.gov          They need 3 business days to process--weekends do not count.  They want the title, bill of sale (w/sellers phone no.), and a filled in 'Export Worksheet'  ......which you can get from US customs.  You might get by with your own sheet faxed to them that includes;
   VIN No.
   Year:
   Make:
  Model:

  Title Issuing State:
Carrier/individual name who will be transporting vehicle across border
Address & phone no. of that person/co.
  Port of Export:    (Blaine,WA.)
  Previous Owner's name:
  Their address:
  Contact phone no.:

  Name of person arranging transportation:
  Address of that person:
Name of new owner responsible for vehicle:
  Their address:
  Country:
  Phone no.

good luck (I am going thru this tomorrow morning)

there is a seperate form, to bring in a car as parts, the border guard told me that you still have to go through the same 3 day process, but the fees are less. lanny has done this, maybe he can clear it up
