I agree that welds are very strong when done properly, but when there is a solution that does not require cutting and welding then its the better solution.

Also as everyone should know, no shop unless its your friend will cut and weld any suspension components, unless you sign a piece of paper stating that they are not responsible if anything were to go wrong.

Stephan shut your jesus-loving ass up.

And as far as tie rods are concerned you don't need taps or any other shit. If you know how to weld, all you have to do is section the tie rods, chamfer the edges, then weld it back together. Amazing huh?
