Which Trailer Is Best
« on: March 22, 2007, 11:44:41 PM »
Just trying to figure out which type of trailer is best all around, cargo is out of the question. Will be buying next week, both are close in price. tilting...or ramps...

Any comments would be nice.

not really advice, but wouldnt a tilt trailer be harder to get a lowered car onto if the tilt is to steep? where as with ramps you just use longer ramps and it makes the angle less

The first trailer is good, but, there are other tilt trailers out there that don't have to be jacked into position for loading (that is what I would be looking for) Look for one that requires about 100 lbs on the front to bring it down. That way you can make a receiver for a winch and the winch won't lower the deck before the car is on.

The second trailer is fine if you don't have a lowered car (or even a car with a flat tire). The bend in the deck (at the back) can be a nightmare.

Get a dove tail. It has an angle trailer with no extras like the first trailer you have on the list. Typical wind up jack to adjust the height. The dual axle one my bros and I have is super stable on the highway and I drive my lowered 65 on it without any additional boards on the ramps.

If your getting a single axle type of trailer you'll wiggle like a fish if you dont have proper tongue wieght. Dual axles are much larger trailers but then you can put anything on them and it'll be more versatile (if you choose to) make sure you have a jack and spare tire.

Electric or wieght activated brakes is up to you.

I agree with Alan, get the dove tail. I have a standard and get my car on it fine it just takes a little bit more work with low cars. I would go with electric brakes and a 16ft.

I ended up buying a PTL trailer.  16' flat deck no dove tail.  ,  it was local,  and the distributor talked that it was the best built trailer option for option.  He has been selling trailers for many years and explained the ins and outs and what this had, and I'm supporting somebody local who buys from a family operated business that builds 1 trailer a day and take pride in what they do from Alberta.
