I am thinking of bringing a VW Beetle from Cal.

I may need to work the logistics of it and maybe a place to store it for Three or so days to deal with the US Customs and the 3 days needed for the paperwork.

I have no idea what I am doing so any hints will be appreciated.

There are various shipping companies that take care of everything for you.

Shouldn't take you 3 days... Just have the paperwork ready. My Mom has brought several older vehicles across from parts cars to drive ready.
Apparently it's easier if it's on the back of a truck compared to driving across.

If you can get the title in hand ahead of time and submit or fax it to us customs 72 hours ahead you can pretty well roll right through.

There are plenty of threads on here about this Emilio.
US Customs needs to have the paper work 3 BUSINESS days before you come across the border with the vehicle.
It was very easy when I brought the DC back. I just Faxed the paper work from AZ abd then went to Vegas for 3 days and came right through. Make sure you come through on a week day not a weekend as they are not as willing to help you

I found that the regular crossing has weird hours when you can cross and came through Sumas instead... 24 hours 7 days a week. A little out of the way but I think the others were only open until 4:30 on weekdays, no weekends. They'll want the title and a bill of sale 72 hours in advance. Without the bill of sale faxed to them, they will not start the process of getting the paperwork done. I learned the hard way! If I can be of any help give a yell.

I just did this recently. Have your paperwork fed-ex to you before the hauler gets to blaine so you can have that 3 day window for the paperwork to process. Once thats done the border guard will just stamp the paperwork and off you go. I unfortunately didnt do this and had to let my car sit for a few days

i seem to recall that even sumas has changed their hours to only weekdays. i think bill had issues with this, but i'm damn tired right now and might be dreaming it up as i type. maybe someone else can confirm...

A buddy of mine is going through this right now. He had the seller send him a photocopy of the title to start the paperwork at US Customs. With that and his bill of sale etc. he went to US customs in Blaine. The customs officer turned him away with the copy, stating that he must have the original title before they would start the 3 day BS thing. So after waiting for the seller to send the original title, he went back down to US Customs. The guy looked at it and said, \"why didn't you just fax it to us?\" ]

Mine was the reverse, I bought it, left a deposit to come down the following weekend. Stopped at customs with the paperwork to get it going in person at u.s. customs. Set it all up, then he said without a full bill of sale that they wouldn't start anything. I went home, and faxed in a bill sale the next day. No problem.

I emailed in a copy of the bill of sale, as well as the forms. They emailed me back that day stating it was all good.

I found out today that both Sumas and Blaine are only available Monday-Friday 0830-1530. I was also told you have to take the vehicle through the same office you send the paperwork to.
