I think the great question is why does Kevin have pictures of Geoff!?

There's a few more old buggy pix on my site, under \"Buggies\" (how original).

No Geoff, not aircraft, they're implement tyres. Flexible at low pressures, were about the 1st decent sand tire when they were cross grooved. Terras hadn't come out yet, and cross grooved wrinkles were still a few years in the future, a pair of which are on my rail as seen on my site. Paddles were really in the future, too. Tires prior to this were the biggest passenger tires you could get, rims about 6\"-8\" wide, and the tires had been \"buffed\" (a procedure to remove rubber tread to prep for re-capping).

That buggy was built by my dad, his 2nd VW buggy, as he had his own welding shop (great place to grow up ;) !). Transporter rear suspension with reductions, 36er (would have a judson in the near future, not long after this shot), Fiat seats, etc. I drove this thing quite a bit.

In the background you see an original old '50s buggy, a hacked-up v8 powered beast.  Also an early belly pan VW buggy built prior to full tube frames. AFAIK, the 1st VW buggies were built about 1960.

guess these were the good old days. I loved it!

I don't need a spare tranny!  I have learned how avoid shock loads
to my tranny that are probably 10 times that of my actual power out put.

Well Hans The way I look at it if the tranny blows it was weak to begin with!
Imagine the 1/4 mile times if everone was so worried about blowing Trannies. They would be 14.80 or something.
You gotta Beat it like a red headed stepchild and whatever breaks make it stronger!!! It's the only way to be fast.
And that my friend is the red neck way.

By the way why is it that Shane has the chicken anyway??????

I'm not so sure Chris, that time Shane raced his bug at mission,
his full throtle side steping tire spining blaze of glory got him a
2.1 or 2.2  60 ft. time .  I can do 2.0's without ever spining a tire.
What will your big bad chevelle do on radials?

OK, Lets get this Straight .. Shane HAD the chicken because he side stepped his rail and shattered his dif.
Gary now has the chicken for running his \"Keg\" Gas tank out of Fuel.

Brent had the Chicken for Side stepping on the Beach shattering his Dif, then he got the chicken for Rolling his buggy down the dune... Did I mention he rolled it down the dune. Then He also had it for running head on into a sand burm.

Hans you even had the Chicken when your Parnter got lost out in the dunes....

\" Can anyone hear me??\" \"Where are you Doug?\" \"Uhm I dont know?\" , \"But there is lots of sand!\"

Well I've never had the car on the track. But i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be very fast.
It' spins the tires though second gear just rollin into it. So I don't think it would hook up enough to be fast.
I wonder if they would let us race our buggies at the track that day with street tires. Even though mine has a Rotary it still has VW tranny.
It would be interesting to see what a 1000lbs and 250hp 9600rpm could do in the quarter.
One thing you can be sure of , when we race on the beach , I'll be side steppin,  power shiftin, Roost shootin to be out front......

Cause if I'm going down like you say. I may as well look good doing it.. B)

You forgot to mention that the buggy wasn't just rolling down the dune. It was rolling end over end!!!! From probably 4 or 5 stories up......

You probably have some pictures of that dune don't you Shane...
