Adjustable Spring Plates

So here's the question.  I keep seeing mention of adjustable spring plates.  Exactly how easy are they to adjust?  I'd love to lower my bus a bit but it's also going to be our family camping vehicle.  The places we camp aren't exactly lowrider friendly.  Can it be done while leaving the reduction boxes in?  Time frame to make the adjustments?

I havent seen adjustable ones for reduction box lately. Bus Boys may still have them on their web site, have a look there. They are great IF you need to adjust the suspension often like you mentioned. Otherwise they dont really offer any benifit. Once you have set the ride height if your car you rarely ever change it. With some time and a little effort you can dial in your stock spring plates just as good.

For the aplication you mentioned then they work well, you will need a jack to remove the load off the spring plate to make adjustments. Jack the van up, get out the allen wrench and adjust! That simple.

Not sure how this would pertain to buses however I ordered a piece from Aircooled.net. It works instead of adjustable spring plates however its welded into the center of the torsion housings. I'm going to be installing it tommorow night so I will take some snaps of the install.

We were doen in Florence Oregon a guy from Alberta had one of these on his rail. I spent  alot of time under the rail re welding it in! Make sure it's not globbed on and welded properly! I know a rail takes a beating more than a car but take the time installing it it's the shits redoing it after welds are cracked and metal is missing.

No worries,
bodys off the pan and the pan is media blasted so its spotlessly clean. We have a big ass heavy duty welder so it should be strong!

Search threads by Notorious BUG on here. He did a instal on one last year, Intermeccanica has used them for years going back to the 80's.

Here's a link to the part if anyone is interested. CIP has it but it's for beetle, Ghia,Thing only Bus uses a larger torsion bar on the early buses -67 changed 68-71 and 72-79 Beetle was all the same to 79.

And then get your rear wheels aligned.  Every time you change the ride height, the toe changes.
