Anyone Musically Inclined? (midi-protools)
« on: December 15, 2006, 01:36:39 PM »
I wanted to buy a small four track mixer/recorder for the kids to record guitar and voices to, but they all seem pretty poorly built. Don't want a toy, but am told through a box to the computer is the only way to go. I was directed to a Fast Track or Fast Track Pro. (@$125 or $225) Anyone with some skill in this area I'd love to hear suggestions.
thanks

depends how into it you want to get.  I've been using an analogue 4-track for years to write songs with.  it works, it was cheap ($150) but editing is a bitch... ie: play it right the first time or re-do it.  getting a used or a base pro-tools type setup could run you about $500 and upwards, but will require some studying to get going.  But you can cut and paste ideas and build drum loops etc...

I use Garage band in my Mac .It is fast & simple to use( but I guess a Mac is more $ than Fast Track)I did use a Boss BR532 digital recorder for a while .  It is for sale if you're interested..

I am by no means musical but I agree I have a Macbook pro with Final Cut Studio and you can pretty much do anything with it.

Thanks for the offers but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I can get the cheapo tascam with \"warm\" analog sound for $135 which is pretty reasonable, but it is limitting. I'm not a mac person, and have three PC's around the house so garage band is a no go, (not for pc's is it?)
G, i'd be interested in the Boss, you can PM me with a price, that would be great.

Still on the hunt for something portable, I just can't tie the kids down to the kitchen where the computer is, (for our sanity) anyone know of something small at an ok price?
