So I venture into the Air Care place.

First, I had to tell him several times that the number was under the rear seat and that they did not have the one on the dash until late 60s /early 70s.

Now for the good part:
The fellow sits in my 64 VW with an Empi short shifter and press putting it on reverse and proceeds to test on reverse. As I saw him, I came flying out of my temporary confinement to get his to take his foot of my gas pedal.  He could not get it out of reverse so, I had to jump in.

I hope they increase the budget at NASA and they may scoop him up.

that's what i do... and it's a good thing, too.

i never have a problem with all the ladies who run the driving test, because they're always gentle. but every single guy has grinded the hell out of my 2nd gear, and needs a little direction.

You gotta wonder why they are trying for R or 5th in the first place.

Everyone should always hop over into the right seat and ride along.  For some unknown reason they sometimes like to shift into 3rd gear and lug the engine.  The rule is that the test must be done in 2nd.  Testing the car in 3rd gear will cause the NOx to spike really high, and it will cause your CO to increase too.

If they try the stupid excuse that you can't ride along for insurance purposes, tell them that your insurance covers you while you are in your own car.

aircare uses 2 testing methods, for 91 and older vehicles they only use 2nd gear, for newer vehicles they use a simulated driving course test and will reach speeds up to around 90 km/h

when i first pull into the a/c building and up to the booth, i set the e-brake and immediately get out of the car and tell the guy/girl that the vin is under the bonnet and i will show it to them. they can also check the gas cap, and all is good. when i drive onto the rollers, i set the e-brake, get out of the car and ask who's driving. i show and tell that person that the trigger on the shifter (vintage hurst) is for reverse only, and that they dont need to use it.

i've never ridden along but i'll try next time. it sounds like fun.

just went last week and passed the 64 with some good numbers.

Thanks to GMB, My 64 Bug has passed the Air Care test.

I arrived and asked to see the manager. I explaine to him the problem I had previously and asked if I could seat as a passenger. Once the operator sat on the driver seat i gave him instructions about the shifter and shifting accoding to my speedometer.

The results were excelent due to the work of Gary.
