A Few Pics Of A Car....
« on: November 20, 2006, 09:36:21 PM »
....that recently rolled into the shop i work at.

it looks like a regular old mini....

but check out the animals zip-tied to the roofrack. the ninja turtle is straddling a tiger, there is a shark on both rear corners and an ape in the back....

then there is the right rear tire....

a closer inspection reveals that some genious used some sort of carpenters adhesive to patch the tire....on the f#@king sidewall to boot.

and then there was this guy that i found in the back seat....

all this and the drain plug in the sump was held in with silicone adhesive and the drain hole in the sump is stripped smooth, 3 out of 6 wheel cylinders were shot and leaking all over the shoes, the water pump leaks like a siv, it's got a packing tape passengers window, the block heater frost plug was being held in by a screwdriver that was wedged between it and the front grill, and there was a huge amount of white sludge under the valve cover and oil filler cap....like enough to fill a mayonaisse jar.

i had to go to crappy tire and buy the econo-size bucket of turd polish, cause this one is going to need it.

i've taken the wheel off and tested it and i can confirm that it is a patch over a hole.

owner is a short excentric japanese man. car was insured and apparently driven  :o.  it's in for a major overhaul and an icbc claim. someone smashed the windshield and door glass trying to put this poor bastard out of it's misery.

yes...yes i did.

shit bruce. i may be a little \"slow\", but i'm not that out of it.

to clarify, i tested it with soapy water and there were bubbles around that patch. now unless there is some sort of magical bubble blowing peekatchoo under there, i'm pretty sure it's a hole. unfortunately, we dont have an abundance of 10\" spares lying around, so the tire had to go back on the car so we could roll it around the shop.

Correct me if I am wrong but dont most good mechanics do there very best to ensure a car goes out safe everytime and would most likely prevent someone from driving out of the shop if the car was a death trap?

your close chris, but i'm going to correct you and say that good mechanics guarantee that the customer is leaving their shop with a safe, reliable and mechanically sound vehicle.

bring that car to my shop. I'll condemn it for safety reasons. Matter of fact any shop can legally kill that thing not to be driven on the road again.

Maybe that japanese dude is my long lost crazy uncle heheheheheehe

I don't get why everybody is harping about condeming the car for safety reasons. It's in a repair facility, being repaired. What's the problem??

If cars were never to be neglected there would be a shit-load of people on this forum alone that would be out of work. That's the bottom line of the automobile repair industry, to repair.

I just noticed the front lic plate.  Was that thing last registered over 20 years ago?

Matt, you should have seen the Datsun 510 pickup that was in Alan's shop a couple of years ago.  There are some cars that CAN'T be fixed, and this was one.

when the car was first dropped off, i saw the owner swapping plates, so afaik the plate doesnt signify the last time it was insured.

i do agree that some cars may be too far gone to save, but i dont believe this car is one of them.

bled the entire system first and put in new brake fluid, 6 new wheel cylinders, new shoes, machined drums, adjusted & bled brakes, new water pump and lower rad hose, new thermostat, tapped drain hole in sump and installed new drain plug, new rear tire & rim, new windshield with new rubber & trim, new door glass, new rear view mirror, new frost plug, oil change & oil filter, new plugs...just have to adjust the carb and take it to aircare.
