Hey guys,
My current means of employment is working with Children with Autism. One of the familys I work for is interested in expanding thier childs interest in Vintage cars and trains. I'm wondering if any of you know of any decent museums around for cars? The train thing is a bit more obvious but the car thing has me thinking. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Not too much in the way of public car collections I can think of off hand but Trev Deeleys motorcycle collection in Richmond is worth a visit.

The owner of Rolston trucking/cranes had/has a small display off of welligdon someplace.

I was in Penticton yesterday and saw a sign for a car museum of hwy 97. Anybody been there?

no vintage car museums that i can think of.

i think your best bet would be to go to all the different car shows (indoor & outdoor) throughout the year.

You might want to check in at Wasney's Auto wrecking on Trapp Rd in Bby. The owner has a substantial collection of vintage and classic Fords. I think it is built like a museum, but is a private collection. If you approach them with your plight, they may allow a showing.
I've never seen it, only heard about it.

I will ask around my company - we have a railway and I know they have restored some old steam locomotives there (New West near the queensborogh bridge)

I wonder what ever happened to all the cars at the Cloverdale museum? Where did they all go? I know that there is a transit museum somewhere around here but dont know for sure as to where it is. All dedicated to buses. There is also FLOSSIN's house.

The Surrey Museum at Bear Creek Park is running a vintage motorcycle show from now until I think the 2nd week of March.

.... its a shame!.... such a vast collection was right at our footsteps!!

Elvis even had a car a there

... that's abouts all I remember... I was only about 8 or 10 when they shut the thing down I believe

My Dad took me there when I was 12. My highlight was John Lennon's Rolls Royce Limo. ^_^

The Cloverdale collection was auctioned off in the late 80's when the NDP took over, I worked there, stuff ended up going everywhere. It was a phenominal collection that combined the King truck collection and the Royal BC museum's auto assets as well as some private donations such as the Lennon Rolls.
Politically it was doomed from the start as it was fast tracked into being by the Socred's and they got jacked by Co-op who owned the property to the tune of around $30K per month lease. When the NDP attained power a capitalist idea in a socialist riding that cost that much per month just for rent simply had to go.
At +/- 150 visitors a day it couldn't support itself.

I just wish I had the $40K the Amphicar sold for at the time, would have been a much better investment than any RRSP.

My uncle used to work for King Cartage in the late 40s just before Mr. King shut the business down. They always had very new trucks. The decision to close was not antisipated, so they had quite a few brand new trucks with no miles on them yet. My uncle was assigned to drive them all into a storage warehouse somewhere in Vancouver where they sat for decades. Mr. King died and his widow did nothing with them but continue to store them. Then she died in the 80s. It was then that they were donated to the Province. That donation was the catalyst to start the BC transportation Museum.
I knew that museum was doomed from the start. Governments shouldn't be involved in businesses like that. They don't have the necessary desire to turn a profit.
