Fabricator For Hire
« on: November 04, 2005, 06:36:46 PM »
Howdy y'all.
My bro who is a KICK ASS fabricator/welder has just been cut off of working overtime at his day job ]:( . Seeing as the guy JUST bought a house a few weeks ago and needs the overtime income to pay his mortgage he now has to rely on doing side jobs in his home shop.  He's got the ability and most of the equipment  to do almost anything you can throw at him and he's also a VW nut like all of us.
Rust repair, Custom Roll Cages and tube chassis, bush bumpers, nerf bars, pan sectioning (Shawn :P ) and body mods to name a few.

Basically the guy can do anything you need and he likes what he does so he does a BEAUTIFUL job.

Rates depend on what you want done and how fast ya want it.
If anyone has some work they want done and haven't farmed it out yet please drop me a line and I'll get you in contact with him.

I'll be posting some pics of some of the work that he's done within the next couple of days.

Cheers!
 -Mike

He was talkin' to me my friend.

And no offence doubledoor, but I started this thread to help out my bro not you. I respect the fact that you're a fab'er and a VW guy too but like I said I'm trying to get work lined up for him to help him make his mortgage payments. Again, no offence to you personally just wantin' to help a brother out, but you're kinda steppin' on my toes in the process.

And Shawn, when do you figure you'll need that pan work done?

Abbotsford. Just off of the McCallum exit.
Your other option is to leave it with me (I'm in Surrey) and I take it to him because I'm usually there every other week and I don't mind helping out either way.

FYI, if you are ever planning to go to Mission to try a few passes, they won't let you run with that roll bar.  Bends must be mandrel bends, not from a muffler shop.

it's ok bruce. i'm pretty sure bill is an on road/off road kinda guy. he's more into get bent out of shape in the mud than on the track.

just out of curiosity, i wonder how those 31x15.5x15 tires would grab at the line.

Absolutely could copy that and then some.
We did one pretty similar to that actually. We used 1.5\" thick-wall tubing though if I remember correctly. 2\" was a little much and would distort more than the 1.5. We didn't use a mandrel bender though. What we did do however, was pack the tube with sand   which kept distortion down to a minimum. I think the most it distorted was not even an 1/8\" on a 90 degree bend. It took minimal effort to knock the die off the pipe after the bend. Once it was painted you could hardly even tell. Like what Bruce touched on though, it may be whorthwhile to check the legalities if you plan on draggin' it. And if worst comes to worst have the 4 bends done by mandrel leaving the uprights long so they can be modified afterwards and have him do all of the fitting and welding after the fact. Somethin' to chew on :P

Yea off road only....I can see it though..all 4 wheels comming off the ground in 1st..them tires  howlin like a hurt dog  in 2nd  then if the  ole tranny was still there hurtling down the track (all 2000 lbs of it )  at about  55 miles an hour in under 22 seconds................EAT YOUR HAERT OUT........

..err ..you posting time and sequence of said post could suggest otherwise...........just an oops would of been sufficiant you don't need to justify it.   So do you have a mandrel bender? See your new around here   welcome aboard . Be sure to post some pics of you right hander up for us to have a look at. you will find most of the guys her are fairly cool and helpfull.

No plans for mission :D  but am curious ,is not a mandrel bend a set inner radius and the pipe is forced into it by an outer set of plates ?  both plates having the correct inner diamiter of pipe being bent ?
              thx Bill
