i am looking to get a new set of rims. i can get a killer deal on a set of panther 17x7's with a 38mm offset, and 40 series rubber.
any one know if they will fit, or what it will take to get them to fit on my 68? i know i have to change my bolt pattern, but do i need a narrowed beam, or older shorter rear axle?

you dont have to change your bolt pattern, you can get adapters.

what bolt pattern are the new wheels? if you need adapters i may be able to help.

I've never seen or heard of 4 x 100 wheel adapters (assuming they're 4 x 100 wheels). Pre-drilled discs and drums are the way to go - at least that's what I've heard

Your best bet to see whether or not they'll fit is check out the feedback at shoptalkforums.com This has been covered MANY MANY times and I'm sure if you use the search button in the Euro-look forum there's tons of info on there. You could also check out germanlook.com as well.

It's probably not going to be a bolt-on affair though.
Sounds like a Saturday-Sunday job to me.

no there probably arent adapters, but i can make them =P..... ya changing bolt patterns is a better way to go if you know that you will stick with those wheels though.

James, you need to pull a wheel off and measure to see how big a wheel you can fit. Probably won't have any problems with a 7\" wide wheel, but you have to get the off-set right. Check out Shop Talk Forums, there are hundreds of post on there about this.

As for the bolt pattern, you can re-drill or by pre-drilled drums and rotors in the 4 x 100 pattern.

Just measure your distance from the outside edge of your drum to the inner lip of the fender. Then measure the distance from the outer edge of the drum to the inner fender well (the car) no the fender itself. That will give you an idea. If Im not mistaken I think the empi 5 spoke back space is around 4.25 to get an idea

the other option is the ones at airspeed. just because they are the bolt pattern for my drums.

You can buy beetle drums with 4X100 bolt pattern, not sure about disc though. Marcel

The most important spec on those wheels is the BOLT PATTERN. If the pattern is different than your car(Which is a?) Then you're right away looking at some cash spent to get them bolted on. I ended up searching ebay for wheels of my bolt pattern, that way i could find rims to fit the car instead of making the car fit the rims. Easier that way.

i was at airspeed today, to pick up some stuff to make my heater boxes work, and i have decided to probably going with the bolt on rims, that are at the shop.
