Frick it's early - 6:30 AM on Sunday and I'm at work - here's the kicker - EVERYONE here is making double bubble, roughly 60 bucks an hour. I am salaried so I have the priviledge of being here at no financial gain!!! Oh sure I get time off in lieu but at a 1:1 trade!!! I currently have 312 hours in my overtime bank, you do the math at how many days they already owe me, or better yet, If I was being paid like everyone else....

And Cindy is beyond pissed as yesterday was our 5 year anniversary and we couldn't spend the night at a B&B like planned cause I got called in - those who know her know how mad she can get....Almost makes being at work ok....

Hmm i only work 10hrs a day 5 days a week  but I get to do wonderful stuff like axle seals on a old rusty piece of crap toyota landcruiser (you have no idea) OR timing chains on nissan maxima's with defective hydraulic tensioners OR pull out engines out of 96 chevy astro vans with plastic intake gaskets that will ALL LEAK!!! which only takes about 11hrs to pull the subframe off with tranny intact OR pull out 22r engines out of old abused toyota 4x4's OR fix broken timing belts out of mid 90's volvo 850's which bend 18 of the 20 valves which cost the poor ass who owns one 5000 bucks to fix. I bet you havent had the pleasure to SLIDE HAMMER A VALVE COVER  off of a 850 volvo have ya?? or changing control arm bushing on a mercedes 4matic thats been in ontario most of its life OR do a timing chain on a GMC Jimmy with over 300,000km which has been worked on some bush mechanic on the boonies. or or or

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I'm sick of making money for my boss so I'm quitting my job in North Van and I'm now gonna be a partner with my brother at his established shop.

I guess if you dont like your job you should quit.  Easier said then done but its self preservation and keeping sanity.  Man is'nt life grand :D

I hear ya! I work 2:30 - 10:30, my wife works 7-3:30 so therefor we do not see each other (awake) during the week. And then I end up working more weekends then not. She's less then impressed to say the least. I've put my feelers out (no not that feeler) but haven't found anything that pays as well ---- yet.

Boo-frickin-hoo. cry me a damn river. I'm sure noone here has had the pleasure of changing a side panel on a Volvo truck that layed over in a ditch, but inside the four drivers that LIVED there didn't clean up after themselves, so I got to trip over different curry dishes, gallons of sour milk , and god knows what else in the weeks time I had it in my bay.

poor James has to sit behind a computer all night :( ....

Make sure your next job is union though :P

It ain't all that it is cracked up to be... Now that you own your own company, lets see an average Shane Day,  Get up at 5 am go into the office get all you employees paperwork, hit the site for 7 am , Physically work till 5 pm,( crawling under spider webbed , muddy Rat infested, (once there was a dead Cat  under there portable building)  all the while you are answering a non stop cell phone, booking meetings putting out fires, dealing with employees , get home at 5 or 6 go into the office and see the mountian of Faxes your wife place there that she got during the day, figure screw this , go have a shower and then dinner, come back aout 7 or so and start into those faxes and PO's, work on the qoutes , fill out the invoices, book more meeting, figure out where you have to be the next day, photo copy maps of everywhere so you employees know where they are going the next day, do pay roll, fax off the invoices and quotes, Look at the time , oh man its 11pm. Geez I hope we get those cheques tomorrow as everyone has pushed paying to 60 days and I have Payroll Friday, SH@t all the trucks need fuel before morning , man there is $300.00
What the kids had soccer practice tonight? Damn and I am the coach. Man the wife and Kids are going to the Lake for 2 weeks. But I own my own company so I can go too , NOT!!!! who's gonna babysit the employees??
Some days I wish I had James work Problems.... (which site should I go to next) Jame s you dont wanna know how many B-days, anniversary's I have missed due to work, There is always another day!!
So I guess you can say no matter what we do there is days you hate your job.... [_[

Shane,

All that hardwork will pay off. Your a good guy and you put in a hard days work, people see that. Good on your for sticking too it through all the sh%t and crap of running your own business.

James,

Quit whining :P your not the only one around here thats bored with there lame jobs, I can barely get my ass out of bed some days to go to work, I would rather do what Shane does and be physical tired instead of mentally wasted every day! Something tells me that you better find a way to get a few more days off and soon!

There my 2 cents worth. And a bit of sleepless babble too!

I feel your pain and frustrations. :(  My previous employer had us working 12 hr days, 7 days a week for almost 4 months straight. Anyone who refused, risked getting fired. All that making scratch lottery tickets   After that, I said to hell with overtime :o Been at my current job for nine yrs, and do very little overtime these days. First job  I ever had(in 1980)was salaried, and we got paid overtime when we did it. Sounds like you work for a slave driver.
