Car show no-no's

Gcvws was awesome as everyone knows. Had a small incident with my car at the show. As I was walking past my car, (peach convertible bug) I couldn't believe my eyes. There were two women leaning against it! Not with their hands but their asses were pressed against it and my door was taking their weight. I know that my car is no show winner or the calibre of a Darren Dilley or a Joe Cormier car, but I've sunk a good chunk of coin into it and touching a car at a show is something you just don't do, nice or not. Anywayz, I semi-politely asked them to remove their asses from my car, which they did. Rest of the day was perfect.

You got to be kidding.  The ignorance kills me. My 5 year old knows look but don't touch. I was also a little disgruntled with the early leaving. I think next year you should have something written on the entry form. I appreciate all the work the DVKK and other volunteers put in to a weekend for US. It was a hot day for ALL of us. I had a 5 year old on my own all day. He was getting cranky and worn down as was I but we made it through as did swarms of others in similar situations. I really think the people make the show and with all the efforts that were made for such a well planned weekend the least the show entrants could do is stick it out for the entirety. IMHO.

In regards to the early leaving...

I held out as long as I could (heck, I was planning on leaving at 2 and stayed until almost 5!)...but I just couldn't wait any longer for things to finish. Bad planning on my part? Perhaps. At least I had the decency to drive around the BACK of the event trailer, and not through the crowd at the front!

From an organization/improvement point of view, there really should be an emergency / early exit plan. Some of the water-cooled cars were packed in such a way that they wouldn't have been able to leave in an emergency if they had one. A simple solution could simply be to simply allow people to leave quietly either through the watercooled row and right out the exit, or down the aircooled row and around the back. The pylons blocking the exit could simply be moved to block the "center stage" area.

Many years at many car shows all over North America has taught me that you will always have people leaving early. The best answer seems to be providing a route so it's possible for them to leave while disturbing the rest of the crowd as little as possible.

I stopped by my car only to find that someone decided to see if my rear view mirror light worked or not, then left it on.  I have enough problems with the car right now and a dead battery would have really thrown me for a loop!

leaving early is not the best thing to do but some people have ferrys to catch or borders to cross and travel long distances to come to this show yearly.unfortunatly life does get in the wat of our cars and shows. we left as soon as it ended only to get to the ferry with 5 min left in the reservation window i know others who missed theres. but i do agree it is rude to bail but there is only one way to get back to the island, i usualy get home at 1030pm from this show. i think it is well worth the groggy monday

 If you've entered the judged category.. either leave your engine compartment unlocked or be near your vehicle.. it's helpful to have the owners handy to answer questions we may have at the time aswell.  The group of judges making rounds was pretty visable.. just have to keep an eye out


... Oh.. and don't fill your gastank on the way to the show if it happens to be a VERY hot day.

funny i knew the show was judged but did not see them.i think the people who judged did well especially for a smokin hot day.

I know the judges go around and open deck lids and such, but i seen this random old guy walk up to my car and i guess he wanted to see the engine for some reason so he opened my hood, wasn't really a nice gentle opening either. on my deck lid you have to open it carefully because it just barely hits the bumper, anyways the paint chip at the bottom got a lil bigger , Also on the leaving early thing I did leave a little early i think the awards were just about wrapped up, but i did have an appointment to make that day, maybe there should be a way people can leave when they really have too.

I wasn't going to comment on the leaving early as I think I made myself clear on the day - If you can't stick it out until the end, because of a prior commitment please don't enter the show. There are a couple of issues with the location we have for the show and one of them is the entrance at the beginning of the day and exit at the end.

There is nothing worse at the end of the day - a very long day for the volunteers - than a bunch of people who are in a big rush to get home because their favorite TV program is on. As I said before if you can't stick around until the end of the day don't show. Come for the day enjoy the show park in the available parking areas and come and go as you please. This way you won't have to worry it being too hot or too cold or being tired after a couple of hours or any other number of excuses passed off to me and other club members through the years as a reason for leaving.

If you have a legitimate reason for leaving, ie. family member in distress. Please let one of the volunteers know. We have always made it so a person can get their vehicle out as quickly as possible after a request of this nature (there have been 2 or 3 in the last 17 years).

I know there are car shows like the Goodguys Street Rod Nationals where there are cars that come and go as well as drive around the fairgrounds while the show is on. They have the space, the insurance and entrance/exit that isn't where the main show tent is. People are also made aware that the cars will be moving around the site. We don't have that type of venue and we aren't that type of show.

Many thanks to all the work that everyone put in, it was a great show.
As per the asses, alot would depend on the look and size of said ass. Most people don't realise the work that goes into some of these cars and the age.

I agree that leaving early is bullshit if you dont have a valid reason. You (being the people putting on the show) have to realize that getting back to the island is a bitch, and when the show runs 1-1 1/2 hours longer then usual people are going to leave early so they can make their ferries

Show me an event this size or larger which runs on time? 17 years people know it will not be on time, as Rob said if you have to leave, Dont enter your car, Come enjoy the day but park elsewhere.

the weekend the show is put on happens to be the buziest weekend of the year for ferrys we try to plan the 700 is the boat we reserve for we think that will be enough time but it actually cuts it close.trust me i dont wanna leave but i also dont wanna work hard to get ready to come over from the island and park down the road.
just my idea not trying to offened anone expecialy the people who sacrafice the time to put toghter this event
look at the deication of these guys like ie geoff peterson the guy had lots of parts to sell under that tarp all day but never got there to sell much.thanks geoff and all the people like you


but if its running way late maybe offer people a breiff chance to leave before the awards
oh ya we try not to come enjoy the day we come to enjoy the whole weekend
come enjoy a show on the island and the ferry will become your issue too!!
