my oval had 4 drums.  and gavin ran the car with a 2332.

The car stopped fairly well with all new brakes.

Interesting, I know the 66 was the first year for balljoint, but i guess it makes sense that later 65 models had balljoint too.

One thing i want to tackle when i get the car is bringing life back to the suspension.

I'm planning to get:
-bilstein hd's
-new link pins

And forgive me as im a newbie but is there other important/obvious things i can replace at a reasonable cost?

I'm going to look into the drop spindles and hopefully i'll have enough fender clearance.

bilstein hd's

I have no personal experience with these on a beetle but I would think that is REALLY overkill for what you will need

KYB gas shocks are even pretty stiff for a beetle shock.... WHat are your plans for ride height/quality?

If your going in there to change things up, do your tierod ends if needed, that make s a big difference and definatly get an alignment done

Stephan:

B46-0620 (F)
B46-0040 ®

They're approximately $60 US each. Im really impressed with the Sports in my Golf and plan to do an autoX or two for fun (in the Beetle). I'm a big fan of a well setup suspension so i want to make sure i do this right  ;)

yes HD's are overkill, they are very stiff, and meant for racing only.

sports are perfect for the street.
