this little box that is screwed to the firewall with all the wires going to it, is it needed? can I just cut those wires and remove the box? On my other bug it has been removed although I was not the one that did it... so I dont know.

Isn't that the plug for the dianogstic gizmo to plug into? Lots of wiring could be removed..............

remember those wires come from various components, you dont want to ground out anything , cut them onr at a time , and cap indavidualy
