Look under "Engine Tech Forum" and you will find one of his reponses to a ny of the questions. Them send him a private message.

or

You could look for pass Classifieds over the last year. I believe he posted the wheels for sale. You may be able to do a search also.

Thanks for the link, silas.  $1300 for the set is much much too expensive for me.

I do have some unfinnished wheels for $75.00 ea. if you like. That set for $1300 are 914 front and widened sport bug rear powdercoated with all nut covers and center caps. Center caps are getting hard to fine.

$75 each for unfinished doesn't sound that great a deal???

I have 4.5 sportbug rims all around but I want to put 205/70R15 in the rear which is why I am looking for 5.5's.

A lot of guys on Samba say they have 205's or even 215's on 4.5in rims, has anyone done that?  Is that unsafe?

Anybody wants to trade two of their 5.5's for my 4.5's?

They look like these but I want the 5.5 inch ones:

Notice how you can't find any 5.5s, but 4.5s are plentiful?  That is because the 5.5" Sport Beetle wheels are RARE![/size]
Rare parts cost more than common parts.

The Sport Beetle wheels were only equipped on Sport Beetles.  Only 3500 of these cars were made for the entire world.
The 4.5s were installed on all Sun Bugs, Love Bugs, and most late convertibles.  There were hundreds of thousands of those cars made.

Thanks for the info.  I had no idea there only 3500 sets of 5.5s in this world!  I bought 4 of them at $10ea for my old car, should have never had gotten rid of them:

I also recently saw someone trying to get rid some so I thought they were common:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic...8488&highlight=

Anyway, I definitely don't need any rare wheels.  Anybody has some cheap common set of 5.5 rims for sale?

well put. that's what i was going to say.

that and the fact that gary is a straight shooter (so you dont have to worry about a shifty seller), he's local (so you dont have to worry about shipping & recieving & all the crap that goes along with it), and they are available right now (so you dont need to spend anymore time on the www searching for wheels + all the time it takes for email correspondence & all that).

that makes it a great deal!!!

imho, i would get the cash and buy gary's 5.5's, mount your 205's to those and run your 4.5's up front and have a killer set of wheels for your bug. i am a firm believer that the wheel & tire combo on a car has alot to do with it's overall appearance. it can make or break "the look".

and dont run 205's on 4.5" rims. that size tire is far to wide for that rim.

good luck ches. B)

205's on a 4 1/2 inch wheel would be terrible.  It's the reason why I run the wheels I do on my bus.  The stock 4 1/2's are simply too narrow to be stable.  That and the fact that Ansen's look sweet ass. :P   Personally I wouldn't have given it a second thought and bought the wheels off of Gary.  You'll spend alot more sourcing out an entire set anyway.

look at these 4.5" wheels:

You would have to get them wider locally. I am sure there are places in town that do it.

But then that would cost way more than just buying them from Gary.

BTW, VW only put a 175 tire on the 5.5" wheel.

good idea....but greens automotive quotes roughly $150 to widen 1 wheel....so like bruce said, it would be way too much $$.
