My New Ride
« on: March 30, 2007, 09:15:10 AM »

well here she is, cat's outa the bag. This is what I was inquiring about all the customs shit about.
Packed up the wife and 3 month old daughter hit the first ferry and began draging my step dads 18' long tilt bed trailer with my poor little Jeep. I was gonna rent a 12' uhaul trailer down there but got denied cause the jeep didn't weigh enough. after a near death experience with a golf ball sized rock almost flying through the windshield and a little detour, we made it to canby oregon to meet Jeff Lovell. Couple hours later and the car was loaded, spare parts were stashed everywhere and the deal was done. As we're driving away down his road, I tell my wife he offered me the motor out of the car for a screamin deal but I didn't take it, she says why don't we turn around.............I says pardon  We hit the closest bank machine and took out the daily limit off all our cards and head back. Loaded all that up and Jeff led us to his shop to lock up the precious cargo overnight and hit a hotel for the night. Jeff told us he'd unlock it first thing in the morn so he got a wake up call at 6:30 poor guy and we headed out.
Well lets just say once I get the trailer of the jeep it's gonna thank me, there was a lot of 4th gear freeway downshifting.
After some idiot just about side swiped us in seattle we got to what I thought was the blaine border crossing which turned out to be the peace arch and my paperwork was at the truck crossing :( back through the line up to the us into construction traffic in blaine and i'm sprinting to the export office at 3:07 ( they close at 3:30)
Got the car through canada customs charged me duty after me arguing with the guy about the duty free old car thing to no prevail, where did I see that refund form????

Gotta give props to jeff, he's a wicked guy and gave me a sweet deal
Stay tuned for more pics and some race car parts for sale soon, I gotta recoupe some of this, I hit the overdraft/credit line hard.

Josh,

I've had the pleasure of seeing this car up close a few times and run 11.6X in the 1/4 mile.

You got one heck of a car!

Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.

no offense to josh or his awesome ride, but it looks more like a race car to me.

and to quote the new owner...

the seperation between street and drag car is more in the engine and tranny/gears than in the rest of the car though isnt it?

depends who you're talking to.

everyone has their different opinions on what a true street car is. many battles have been fought and much blood has been shed over this issue. ;)

but if you're asking me...lexan windows, fiberglass, and no seats means it's more a race car than a street car. and like you mention, trans gearing & motor details will have something to do with street driveability aswell.

i agree on street car needing 2 seats in the front for a street car, capret as well perhaps
lexan windows im unsure on, i know for new cars sometimes its cheaper to buy lexan than glass, not sure about beetles
fiberglass and carbon i dont count as drag, id put those on a street car

to me the biggest thing is pump gas and your gearing allows for regular driving

So what is Jim's car then?

I would call that race then?
Dood who cares... If he insures it for the street it is a ctreet car, If he only races it like darren does the oval then it is a race,,,

You can debate this till your blue in the Face Silas,,, all I know is that if I bought it , It would have been a fricken fast street car...
