Taillight Position On 61 Beetle
« on: April 08, 2006, 09:53:31 PM »
I have snowflake taillights for my 61 beetle and the fenders I have are not OG so I need to patch up the holes and then figure out where the lights will go, anyone have any ideas on how to find out the exact position of the lights?

the easiest way would be to grab a tape measure, find a car with snowflakes, and take some measurements.

What do ya need ?
from the bottom fender edge to the holes?
body edge to the holes?
Hole spacing?
I have my 61' fenders sitting out right now.
How about a picture with the dimensions written on the fender?

Mine had the small 55-61 tail lights on it.

heres a link to a pic of the dimensions on the fender.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid2...7a/ef8189ad.jpg

I measured a few time before writing the sizes on it. Too bad I didn't have a decent sharpie.
The holes run parallel to the body line from the rear apron. The horizontal line is from the corner of the fender.
I hope that makes sense.
Mark

Digging up an old thread but I am in need of tail light positions on my '59. I assume they are the same as a '61? The link above is no worky anymore. :-\

Jeremy,

I have a right rear fender you can use to measure. It also also has the holes for the VW badge, if you wanted to include that.

Great Phil. Maybe I could borrow it for a day or two. When would be a good time to come take a look?
