Ok, I've been battling with this thing for weeks. Are the flat spots I experience during acceleration normal with a stock 160DP using a 009 dist.?

Yup, 009 will give a bog when used with that carb. Some fine tuning can help eliminate it but it can take a while.

I had the same problem with my set up (34 pict with 009). I cured the problem by buying a centre-mount dellorto 45 DRLA. It fixed all flat spots and hesitations.

I also had this problem and seemed to solve it after adjusting the idle mixture at a shop with a gas analizer. The mixture was adjusted to pass air-care and after passing was re adjusted to eliminate the flat spot.
