They are not legal to import into Norh America. The only way is to buy one in Mexico and swap the pan to a pre 74 beetle chasis and insure it under that. Thats how the few were imported including the beetlemex cars.

There is one in Langley right now at Duanes autohaus, it is on the pan now and still in the process of being completed.

Duane is going to sell it.

It was the Yellow one for sale at the Great Canadian last year at the swap section , it had front end damage, and was never registered in Canada so nobody wanted it.

Duane picked it up for very cheap a few months ago.

That's how I did mine.  I did the pan swap in Mex just about 3 yrs ago now.  Its easier to do it to an IRS car, since the new bodies work with IRS shock towers.  But this is all moot since you can't get new cars to convert anymore.
IMO, a 92 isn't really worthwhile.  You don't get all the great upgrades the 94 and newer ones had like FI, hydraulic lifters, a real oil filter, disc brakes, factory alarm/immobilizer.
I'd be very wary of that 92 if it was driven year round.  The Mexicans take no effort to make them rustproof.

thanks Bruce. Maybe i'll wait and hopefully find a 03 like I really want. It will definitly be coated with Krown rust prevention if i buy it.

the one stones has , factory alarm, fuel injection, sliding rag, tweed headliner, swing axel, registered as a 69, and never winter driven. i think he changed the origional color from off white to red or something. i beolieve it has verry low milage. when it first came to nf , it went up for sale and i went to see it. the guy gave me the ad that the toronto dealer gave him for the car. it sold for 6000 to stones in mt. pearl and he rarely drove it. and he would sell it  if someone were interested. the toronto dealer was selling them for 15,000 and he had 15 brought in.

If it was a 92 that was converted, it won't be fuel injected.  FI first appeared in 94.  It may have a catalytic converter, I think 92 was the first year for a Cat.
If you want one, watch eBay, read Hemmings, and expect to pay over $12k USD since that's what btlmex was charging.  Now that the supply has ended, there's nowhere for the price to go but up, provided they are well cared for.
