Title: Sticky Valve

Hey,

I just rebuilt my motor and I've got a sticky valve that keeps seizing open, I am currently just readjusting it every time it messes up, I don't want to pull the heads. Are there any tips on un-sticking it without pulling the motor? Oil in the carbs? that kinda stuff?

Its a type 3 1600 with dual carbs.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's gotta come apart.
If this is a new engine, the valve is not gummed up.  This tells me the guide was pressed in with a bit too much interference fit and the ID has collapsed a bit.  You will need to ream the guide when it's apart.

 I had one of my engines that we had reamed the guides on the tight side of things. Once it got up to operating temp some of them would seize and not break free until it cooled down and then they would pop back closed. Had to pull the heads and ream out to the next size.

See, the odd part is that valve wasn't changed neither was the seat. The heads where rebuilt about 2 years ago and I never had this problem. Its really odd. Looks like it might have to come apart, money, money, money :o I think its about time to stop dumping money into this thing lol. Thanks guys.

You mentioned "readjusting"  .  Which way ? tight or loose?
Is the valve actually staying open( runs bad and noisy ) or are you just gaining clearance?
Does it run good and quiet for a while after adjustment?

The Valve is coming out, I think it hit the head when it stuck once and bent, it was jammed when I went to readjust it. :S Guess thats life.  ??? Thanks for the response!
