My '53 Barndoor Singlecab
« on: August 11, 2004, 06:40:59 PM »
Well I finally found it! After wanting a single cab for so long, I finally have one. I just bought this 53 BD singlecab I had been searching for. It started out as a tip from a guy I met at a car show last year just outside Saskatoon, He told me that he knew where there was a really \"old\" VW truck with semaphores. Me being the car whore I am,  I just had to investigate. 1 year later, I followed up on this longshot, and low and behold, I'm the proud new owner of a Barndoor! The pics are kinda small, cause I suck at posting them, but if someone wants to host them, I would be grateful.

Damn, that's too cool! And it's a smooth gate to boot! What did you pay for it? If it were mine, it'd be on the ground with some chromed alloys. Very cool ride.

wash the dirt off the seats and roll it as is. it looks like it has aged quite well and the patina is perfect.

Yeah, I have had perma grin since I found it! :D
Someday it will get the full treatment, in the meantime I'm gonna get it mechanically sound and drive it while collecting all the orig. parts. Anybody have a set of bubble taillights for it? I will be combing the swap meet this weekend in search of a set.
Thanks for posting those for me James!

Too bad you didn't post this thread earlier. I'm in the middle of selling all my Barndoor stuff to a guy in California.

you've been spending to much time on thesamba.com forums. it seems like it's all \"dump it and put it on alloys\" over there. ;)

i say you mount a mulholland kit on there. think about it. a mulholland barndoor sc. has it ever been done? hell no. you'd be the coolest kid.

if it was still 1987.

i'm stickin with my first choice. roll it as is.

I see that you have some rust on it, you might just want to make it in to a planter in a garden somewhere? or better yet stick it in your driveway and never do a thing but put your garbage in it and refuse to sell it!! I love it when poeple do that!!

all in all very sweet ride!! Dump the front and jack up the rear like 135/15 vs 265/80/15 that would rock!!

ok you guys, enough with the bad ideas. Keep it stock or dropped. Monster mudders, jacked up - come on! Trevor will get beat up if he does that and of course we don't want that to happen. I just wish I found that truck. A smooth gate single cab is up there on my top 5 favorite VW's list. Too cool.

Speaking of a \"single cab planter\", when I found my '54 single cab in Agazzi years ago, it was sitting beside an abandoned house under a treee. It had sat there for so long that the bed was full of dirt due to all the dead leaves that had built up over the years. Weeds were growing out of the bed that must have been about 1-2 feet tall. I had to take a shovel and dig it all out before we hauled it away.

I say cut the rear wheel wells and put some nice turbine mags on it. Paint a Huge #3 on the doors ! Grow a mullet ! :mullet:
Add some shagg carpet to the bed and go down south to a Nascar race !!!!

Na just dump it as is ,put a 1600, and some Randar's
My knuckles love it ,when I break a Rusty Bolt !!!!!

As cool as all those ideas sound (esp. the Dale Earnhardt pull truck    ) I think it will go back to 100% stock after the '56 is done. There just isn't enough of these trucks around to start modifying it and all that. After seeing the lack of T2's at the GCVW show on the weekend, I think it would be a hoot to bring it out there next year with a wack of parts loaded up to sell at the swap.
