Hello.
I'm new on here. I am from the UK but living in Vancouver for the next 12 months. Looking forward to going to a few shows while I am here.
I own an 1983 Mexican Beetle that is the special \"Aubergine\" edition.
I sometimes use the UK VW forum volkszone.com under the same username.

Anyway here is a picture of my beetle.

Just curious, but isn't Aubergine an Eggplant?  What kind of engine is an Eggplant?  Or is it purple?

Thanks for the replies. Are there many UK members that use this board.

Yes Aubergine / Eggplant are the same thing. Its hard to describe the colour of my Beetle, purplish bronze is about the most accurate description. I know it is a rare beast, only 3500 made worldwide and most of them ended up in Germany. Its one of only 2 in the UK that is in a roadworthy unrestored condition and I know of 2 others in the UK that are being restored or need restoring.
If anyone know of any others please let me know. It is my life mission to find the rest of them!!

There are a few jobs that I would like to do, the window rubbers and chrome trim on the rear screen and the rear quarters could do with changing, but they do not leak so I may leave them as is. I have also installed a pertronix kit and a rev (tacho) counter up front. Which turned out to be a bigger job that I anticipated. The car is left hand rive so I ran a wire down the A-post along the sill, under the back seat, into the rear quarter and into the engine bay. I had to get through some expandable foam that was in the rear quarter. Took me two days in the end using various tools and implements. I know some people will say run the wire underneath the car but the way I did it is very tidy and all the wires are contained inside the body of the car.

The Beetle is a 1200 34bhp motor, after reading John Muir's book, \"How to keep the legend alive\" I installed a rev counter, although a calender will probably do the same job!!
