Axel tube cover instalation
«

I'm just putting my axel tubes on my 62 type 1 trany. One side I put on 3 gaskets on the cover and it is snug the other 2 gaskets and it is tight in the up and down position and loose in the middle. What is the procedure for setting theses up?

You need to make the tube articulate through it's entire motion freely. Add gaskets until it does.
But..... you don't want excessive play.

I don't know about the gasket kits available today, but originally VW sold gaskets in 2 thicknesses so you can fine tune the play. If you think yours is binding at a position that will never occur at your car's ride height, you may be ok as is.
