A little bit of back ground… On my 15th birthday I purchased my first beetle, 73 Super with solid pan’s, no rust body, but the motor was a little tired. I rebuilt the 1600DP in shop class in high school. Motor didn’t last long. Lesson learned … Ensure the wrist pin snap ring is properly seated or you’ll have a paperweight pretty quick! My second was a 72 Standard with rotten pan’s, I originally bought this for the motor, but the swap never happened. Due to circumstances I sold them as a package and picked up a Honda. (Can I say Honda here without retribution?) 20 years later, I decided I needed a project Beetle to get my mind off of work. (Work-aholic issues) I spent about a year looking for a project that interests me, literally checking ASF and others about 4-5 times a day. The morning that I was going to purchase a beetle that I was not 100% on, but pretty desperate, I thought I would check ASF one last time, A 63 was posted for about an hour and I was off looking at a ‘Project car’ that is not anywhere as much of the project I was looking for… but when I physically saw the car that I was going to build… it was too hard to walk away. Just doing minor tweaks to the car for its first season and researching disc break conversions for a fall project. Thanks to the powers that be that host this great site! Cheers.
