Since you are planning really low CR, and a tiny cam, you need 40 DRLAs.  The dual single bbls will kill the engine combo.

Could I get dual Dellortos 36s to work that configurations?

They'll work a lot better than dual single bbl carbs.  They will restrict the hp a bit, but they will give great throttle response and great mileage.  Driving will be like a modern FI car once the carbs are set-up properly.

IMO, 44 DCNFs are kinda big for this engine.
Also, Weber specifically states that DCNFs should be installed with the throttle shafts perpendicular to the length of the car.  IE. not in a VW.

In my last car I had a 2110 with 45 Dells....they worked very well....low maintance and would pass aircare no problems!

Yes , when mounted in our VW's  the float bowl will dump fuel down the throats and/or starve the main circuit during hard cornering

However, those that have run DCNFs report that they LOVE these carbs.  I have never tried DCNFs, Hans has.

Yes I love mine too(except for that cornering thing)  but the main attraction is that they fit in a type 3(sort of)

Those DCNF's above look like they have Type 3 manifolds.  That will not work in a beetle. You would need to find Beetle DCNF  manifolds.
