I just want to know what is normally use on old VWs so that I don't buy the wrong and mix them.

Normaly dot 3, but you should completly flush and change your fluid every 2 years, ( sooner if
you live in a wet area
burnt, scared,bloodied,greasie hands
    ............it's a zen thing...........

Dot 3 is all you need. Since brake fluid (polyglycol) is hypertonic it'll absorb any moisture it can get. Flushing is good idea.

I dont know silas maybe I'm :wacko:  Thats what BCIT taught me in class. Regardless it absorbs moisture.

alan...you crazy mang. i think we're both right but hypertonic is more related to what 1976bus said and hygroscopic is a term more used to describe brake fluid.
