Its a longshot asking but I thought, why not try.

So far the best offer has been 1000$

16 hour drive each way for someone leaving from here... $1000 is not bad but if you could find a truck that's heading here from the east coast with one empty spot on the trailer... maybe easier said than done? Maybe a craigslist ad in Ontario, Manitoba or Saskatchewan to see if anyone's heading this way. Anyone driving to the Grey Cup and want to drag a u-haul behind them home? ;)

Thanks Brian for all your help and encouraging words.
Unfortunately if I don't find someone coming this way anyways, and looking to offset the cost...
The vehicle I'm looking at isn't worth the extra $1000 to get it here.
lets see it needs heater channels, all 4 wings, a Wdeck lid, a front and rear clip.
Pan is useless, ratty ripped up interior, no engine, tranny of unknown condition etc. etc.

I may have to stick to my alternative plan of a 57 :(

Have you tried Uship.com?

I got some pretty competitive quotes using their site, and if you are open on your dates the quotes can be even cheaper. Guys towing will bid on jobs, and if they're trying to add to a load they already have will bid lower.

I did a quick Uhaul online quote, and it was $1600 for a truck and t-trailer!

would it be cheaper if he just built a crate for it and it went on a regular transport truck? A couple of palettes joined together with 2x4's and some straps over the roof would do it. A truck with a pallet jack and tailgate could pick it up?

If you leave you transport times fairly flexible, transporters will bid low just to offset fuel costs on their existing jobs. I'm pretty stoked to have get my delivery by the end of the month. I guess I better make room to start on the pan ;)

Hmmmm....
