engine question

I have a buggy that I have built a few years ago and have a 1776 engine that I freshened up with new conecting rods barrels pistons and heads it runs great and i have no power issues I am running babby dels with a 009 dis.The only issue I have had with it is ( and it has only happened two times) I was driving and had to change lanes to turn, so I downshifted to over take the car beside me and may have over reved the engine and it started to sputter. It iddled fine but when I tried to give it any fuel it would just sputter again, after  a few min the issue went away and it ran great again.I dont have a rotor with a rev limiter and I talked to a friend that works at cal imports about this issue and he thinks it may be a problem with the fuel pump as i am just running a stock pump he said I should consider an electric pump.If anyone has had the same sort of issue or may have some advice on this issue the input would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the flow out of your fuel pump? What condition is it in? How about your fuel filter?

ok summer is almost here so I am starting to get the buggy cleand up and do a few upgrades . sorry to chris that I did not reply to his question. I have not realy checked the fuel pump or filter but they are new with only a few miles on them.visualy they seem ok. I have not put a pressuer gauge on the line yet, it is a buggy and only gets driven in the summer and it runs strong pulls the wheels off the ground but I have had this one issue  that I would like to fix. when it happens it seems like it has run out of fuel . So what I am thinking is I am running the stock fuel line and it is too small for the power set up. Am I going in the right direction?

Stock fuel line will easily support 190-200 H.P.

The Baby dells also only like about 2 PSI fuel pressure max.

Check ignition timing. Attach a timing light. See if the timing advances when the motor is revved up.

Indeed. I ran 12s in the quarter with a stock pump feeding IDAs.
From the driveability issue you describe, it sounds like the needle and seat flooded the carb a bit.  Happened to me doing a full posi U-turn in Puerto Vallarta a couple of days ago.  It took about 20 sec to clear out.

ok so the fuel line size is good the stock pump is fine to run  the fuel filter is new it looks like it is just a glitch in the system I will run it and see if it happens again I hate when it is one of those little bugs that comes and goes so hard to figure out I almost like it better when somthing brakes and is hanging have a look and thers your problem replace it and off you go thanks for the input

either flooding or going lean, when it happens try pumping the pedal (accel pump) to see if recovers,no joy, when it dies hold the pedal wide open to start it and keep and eye out for a black cloud behind ya,least you will know which demon your fighting. have you check the screen in the tank outlet? is the tank vented?
