How Much Should I Pay
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:34:01 PM »
there is a guy here in fort st john with a motor for sale.  he says it's from addy country motors and it's a 2110 ( 90.5x82mm).
the motor is totally ready to run with 009 and dual kadrons sitting on an engine stand.

my question is how much should i pay.

first off u should know i think this guy is a bit shady.
--he tells me it is the motor he had built from abby motors then i go to look at it and see a buggy in the corner with dual 40 dellortos on it.   he tells me the buggy has a new 1835.  the motor on his buggy has a abby sticker but the motor he is trying to sell me doesn't have the sticker. then a few days ago he tells me he went to abby to buy his and saw this one on the 'showroom floor'.  i took some cash to him today because he called abby for his build sheet that says 2110 with kadrons... i told him i called abby and he changes his story.  i find out the motor he is trying to sell me he got from another local guy who ordered it aswell from abby.

confusing i know.

aren't kadrons too small for a 2110?
aren't 40 dells kinda big for an 1835?

he wants 2500 firm
should i buy it anyway and just accept in might be the 1835?

help

no, no and NO
Dont touch it, if he does not know, then it is not what you think it is.
If you are super lucky, give it a shot. but you can build a pretty sweet motor for 2500 bucks. NEW!!

you could even build a nice 2110 for that money. new case, crank, rods, pistons, heads and all the rest. (carbs will prob throw you over that mark)

GMB could prob hook you up with motor and build i would ask him nice like and see what happens.

One of my first performance engines (1776 back in the day) was from abby country motors, I didn't even make it to the freeway from their shop before is was puking oil everywhere. IF you do buy it run it first, check it over and be 100% sure about it. Not saying all their motors are bad or any of them for that matter, just that I wasn't to impressed.

Personally, I would rather put the cash into a new engine.
Get it rebuilt by the people on this forum like Terry Hoogstins or GMB
Thanks,
Shawn

I would rather spend $3500 on a new motor that I know everything about then a questionable motor where you already don't know if you can trust the seller.  Don't waste your time.  You are setting yourself up for a possible new topic.....:I wish I had listened.....\"

Here is an idea. :D

You coud purchase what you can afford now from Matt (if he agrees) and get the rest later. The parts he is selling are quality parts because he was planning to build it for himself.

I had one engine built by GMB (a member here) with parts I purchased over time as I could affort them. as painful as it was my patience eventually paid off and I am very happy with my engine.

I did not even want to start about ---- motors, When I worked in mission I met many Many MANY a person that had motors from ---- motors

And helped many, many, many rebuild them...........

Gary is a great builder and for 2500 he could get you a nice new motor!

Not saying gary will do this, he is a busy fellow but I would Let him have complete control of a build and trust it!
If not PM me, i know a few good builders who can get you what your looking for.

The guy's backpedaling and change of story once he learned you were checking up on his story are BIG ALARM BELLS.  IMO you would be foolish to buy that complete unknown engine.

I am extremely happy that he built mine. My car is a lot of fun to drive.

There are a few 1914s around here that carry the title
