General weakness in both legs ,back pain ,hip and low low back .   If any body has gone through this let me know your history. Hopefully I wont need it they say I'm to young to start monkeying around but have missed alot of work and getting frustrated . I really would like to get working on the van also . Thanks Martin

The best advice I can give you is when you do sit down with the specialist to review your MRI make sure you take notes. Write down exactly what he says is wrong, how he can help(exactly what the proceedure will be)  and what the benefits will be to you. Also, make sure you have a family member present in the room when he's going over all this with you.
In my situation we talked about one type of proceedure and he did a new proceedure on me without ever even a mention of it.....I found out tru my family doctor that I had a new proceedure done. And now I have more pain than I had before the surgery....and the specialist seems to be ignoring it(me)
Anyway, if you have any specific questions feel free to contact me!

Yikes....We know a few people that have had good and bad results. Scar tissue is what will happen later on.  Hope it works out, and all they recomend is going to the gym 3 times a week.

Sorry about the back!

My wife went through back surgery a few years back. Her disc at L4 blew out big time. They went in to remove what was left and only came out with a couple pieces about .5cm in diameter. They did a newer type of surgery called Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion. With here surgery, they went in from the front and installed 2 hollow plastic screws (one on either side of her spinal column). Then they filled them with synthetic bone marrow that ended up fusing the two vertabraes together. She was in and out of the hospital in 36 hours. She still has some pain, but it's more like arthritis. I think the ache that she has now is due to a steel plate they decided to put on the front of her spine for more support.

My story is maybe not as severe but maybe it will help.

I decided on a second and third opinion... especially when I found out surgery was involved.

6 Months ago, or so,I started to experience major pain in my knees, hips and mid back/neck. So bad that I couldn't get up or down stairs, kneel down on the ground or walk up an incline. I had an MRI and found that I have a degeneration in my left knee as well as some other issues that came from compensating for the damage I had done over the years. So in the joints, behind my knee caps etc., the tissue was swelling so much that I thought I was not going to work on my car again let alone drive it, play with my kids or enjoy being the active person I always have been.

Everyone was talking about replacing my knee. ack! Now I'm only 39, ummm a new knee wasn't the solution I hoped for... but, a family member told me to go see this doctor about a therapy called Prolotherapy.
Well after 6 months, I am not only going up and down stairs, but running, jumping, kicking a soccer ball with my youngest, I am able to work again, etc. Maybe I am not ripping an edge at the skate park, and blazing over a hip on my mountainbike, but I am able to enjoy life again.

My therapy is not complete, but I have beat surgery for now anyways. And if I continue to improve like I am... who knows!

I hope that everything turns out for you.

Good news about the back (kind of ;) ). Take care of those discs. Did they give you any excersizes? I had one almost rupture 3 times (same one each time). As the pain got less they gave me some excersizes to do. They worked great!
