Mission Race Track Future

I bought some tires for my truck this week and was talking to the manager who is a die hard racer that also has a brother living in Mission, he was talking about the track possibly being closed down when the lease expires in 3 years( maybe it was 5 can't remember).  To make way for a new development.

I came across this at the race track from Kelowna which linked to the mission newspaper,

It looks like this development is for the east side of the fraser bridge, but wonder if it would flow over to the track side as well.

Anybody here anything on this?

Hmmm, BCCCA actually owns the property. Not a lease from what I've heard.

There's always going to be pressure on racing facilities from the encroachment of residential and commercial development (remember Westwood?) but the BCCCA is well up to speed on holding them off. The current track's location is the reult of the BCCCA winning a Supreme Court ruling against the City of Mission about 15 years ago. The property is owned by the BCCCA and is zoned appropriatley for its use. The concept for shoreline development in Mission includes a business park between the track and the Hwy 11 road bridge and a commercial area between Hwy 11 and the rail bridge to the east, presumably to act as a noise buffer. The nearest residence would be approximately 3/4 of a mile from the burnout box. This, along with the 93db noise limit enforced at the track, should keep the locals from bitching too much. I don't think the track's in any danger.
