All Air Cooled Car Show - Bc & Wa
« on: September 06, 2006, 06:08:17 PM »
Hey there,

My name is Joel Rushworth, and "No" I don't have a ton of money stashed away in Nigeria that I need you to help me with.

I'm with the Corvair Club in Western Canada. We are about to hold a most unique car show, and we'd like to extend an invitation to all of you to attend.

This year, and this year only, Western Canada CORSA is putting on an All AIR COOLED Car Show in beautiful Victoria, B.C. the weekend of September 15th, 16th and 17th. This will be a unique event, attended by cars of all marques, the usual suspects, VW, Porsche, Citroen, Corvair. We've also gone to great lengths to bring out some of our more obscure air cooled brethern, Tatras, Franklins, Cords, Piaggio, Issetta, Subaru, Morgan, and the list goes on.

In brief, what have we got planned for you.....
On Friday, we're planning an Air Cooled Invasion of a local cruise-in night (that has a live band). It'll turn some heads among the muscle car and hot rod crowd to be sure!

If you're a workin' stiff, and from out of town, that means Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, we're getting started with a BBQ at around 4:00 in the afternoon, followed by a cruise . Oh yeah, your $15 registration fee for the show covers the BBQ too. Plenty of time for a leisurely drive up from WA. Sunday at 8:00am starts the main event in a picturesque park right on the ocean. A week ago I would have said "we think about 100 cars", but our registration and info page has seen over 450 hits in only one week! So at this point, who knows! Besides canvassing the net, we've also done serious promotion all over Vancouver Island, placing over 200 posters, which we expect will bring a strong turnout by the general public.

For more infomation, please go to our events page...

And please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Please pass the word!

Regards,
Joel Rushworth

I just wanted to pass along one final note about the Hot Air Affair with one week left before the fun begins! (Sept 15th, 16th & 17th)

The response has been extremely enthusiastic with participants coming from as far away as Oregon, and these are only the ones we know of!  We've had over a THOUSAND hits on the download page, which certainly indicates that we could have participants from even further afield.  Come show day we're sure to have major surprises rolling through the entrance.  We've worked very hard trying to track down as many unique air cooled vehicles as possible.  We think the Hot Air Affair is going to represent one of the most interesting assemblages of cars you will ever get a chance to see, and a reminder, it's the only time WCC is going to put on an All Air Cooled event, there is no next year.

Part of our efforts to find the owners of these rare air-cooled vehicles was putting up 200 posters all over Vancouver Island, but that also means it is going to be one of the best publicized car shows of the year.  We've got a great location at Gyro Park, and a side benefit of those posters should be a strong turnout by the general public.

There are less than 10 rooms left at the host hotel, but they are still honoring our group rate (code = WC16, phone = 250-704-4656 or 1-866-300-4656 ) if you haven't gotten a room yet.

Don't forget, it's more than just the show, we've got the "Air Cooled Invasion" on Friday night, and the BBQ and Cruise on Saturday afternoon.  All the information and maps are downloadable from the website.

We're looking forward to seeing you there.

The only regret you'll have, is missing it!

Regards,
Joel Rushworth

My wife and I are looking forward to this show. We won't be able to make the Sat. BBQ, as we'll be heading over on the 6 PM ferry, but you'll see us Sunday in the 63 Notchback for sure.

Any other mainlanders heading over??

I have a 5PM ferry reservation and my hotel is booked. Quite a bit cheaper than the "host hotel". I am so looking forward to this.

It was a pretty good show, even with the weather not co-operating on Sunday. There were some pretty cool cars there including a  1990 Trabant, a 1966 Cord that utilizes a 180HP Corvair motor, a BMW Isetta, a couple Subaru mini-trucks (these were actually brought to the show in the back of a short bed chevy) , a Citroen 2cv, a Piaggio three wheel utliity, more than a handfull of really clean corvairs, and the list goes on.

I learned alot about the Corvair, did you know they had a wagon model named a Lakewood? or the rampside Pick-up? Plus the Notch took it's first award ever as the best VW car there. So there was only 7 cars in that class, but ours was the best of 7! Any interest in pics I'd be glad to share.

Glad you enjoyed the 'Vairs

I have a neighbor that usually has a few kicking around. Curently the pickup and aboot a '61 two door. Recent ones included a 65 Corsa (4 carb) and what could be the same Lakewood wagon you saw. What I haven't seen in a really long time is a Corvan.

That Corsa you posted is way kewl!
