I saw these spring plates on wagens west?? Looks idiot proof.... Any ideas, info, thoughts. Never seen this before so would like some feedback good or bad. If you do not want to post bad stuff publicly I would appreciate a confidential pm.

Also idiot proof is taking 68 and later Beetle long axle tubes, removing the bearing housings, and replacing them with the short bearing housings from a 66 and earlier Bug trans. A simple swap of stock parts will save you $175.

You would still have to cut/notch the spring plate otherwise you will have about this much ][ travel.
I agree, much cheaper to do it yourself.

PS Here's how your at home notch/cut job should look like.

hey, bruce the axle tubes are actually the same length inside, its just the bearing housings are different lengths.... at least the ones i measured were...

I donno. You'll have to talk to Duane. He's the one that told me you use early Beetle brg housings on late Beetle tubes. Or was it you?]

that day we were measuring the axle tubes it sure made sense, but i looked into it further and we were wrong....
