Another air care question
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:59:32 PM »
Does it make a difference what type of gas you use to get through aircare?  Regular (87 oct) vs. Supreme (92 oct)?
I have a 1968cc engine which is almost impossible to get through aircare.
74mm crank
92mm pistons
engle 125 cam
dual webber 44's
I haven't tried to run it through aircare in a long time, but this summer will hopefully be the one.
Any tricks in setting it up to get it through?  I will have to look back to see what it failed on in order to give you some ideas.

Thanks

VIN 1102706453
The last test was in 1993.
I will take it through and see what happens so I can get some current readings, however any basic tips are appreciated.

Thanks

According to http://www.aircare.ca/inspinfo-vehicle-history.php you failed on HC's both driving and idling so you either have a major miss or some sort of internal engine issue like low compression, bad valves or bad rings. Gas doesn't really matter but do avoid the ethanol enriched stuff, regular works fine and may even skew the readings in your favor due to the faster burn.

So....what's causing the miss?, bad spark, bad mixture or bad compression?, or just a worn out or poorly broken in or previously overheated motor? time for you to do a valve adjustment followed by a compression test and then move on to the ignition system and mixture.
