30 pict 1 distributor choice
« on: May 01, 2013, 09:01:37 PM »
I have a bone stock 1600 dual port with a 30 pict 1 and a 009 with electronic ignition.the car actually runs well with no flat spot, but on the highway runs a bit warm.i would like to take out the 009 and replace it with a better choice.i just am not sure what to get.cip has a couple, svda s but im concerned about quality. Any suggestions? I would even entertain the idea of a better single carb and dist package

I had that same problem with my flame thrower coil and 009 also.  What I ended up doing is take ou my empi after market carb and put in the $300 something original Mexico made carb. And then it ran really well.  I tried vacuumed advance distributor and had the same problem...but that was just what I found.

Turd, tell us more about what jets you have in the carb, what you are setting the timing to and what oil you are running first please.

As far as jetting im honestly not sure but I do remember them being oe size, timing is 30 total and 6 initial.ive been using semi synthetic 10w40 with hyperlube zinc additive. I just bought a new pertronix svda distributor today but wont have time to install till next week. Hopefully the dist will help.when I contacted aircooled.net I was told their svda was on backorder with no e.t.a. for the last 8 months.now im thinkin new or different carb too  may help. I really just want as smooth as possible running

Hmmm..... sounds like you've got the timing and oil handled, a look in the carb too see just how it's jetted wouldn't hurt as well as a fuel pressure check. Stock main jetting doesn't play well with modern fuel so a little richer helps.

How are you determining it's too warm?

ive noticed after a long hiway trip it idles high when you stop.no ping or hesitation so maybe not out of control but still there. not to screw up this thread but that distributor that wont get done till next week....i put it in at 6 this morning before work. holy crap its so much smoother its unbelievable. i set total to 30 so thats good but that made initial about 12. i may have it idling too quick but it starts well and doesnt run on when shut off so i will investigate a little more as i get time. i may richen the jets just in case its running lean at higher rpm. any more input would be  great.
