Grinding On Downshift

Hey guys heres the dealio.
62 bug with a 40hp with a 72 swing trans
hurst shifter.
Shifts nice in all other gears but when at speed and rolling shifting into second is impossible without horrific grinding. Once slowed down it will shift into second nicely. ...
Transmission is filled with synth 75 w 50...

Could be syncros, is the shifter adjusted correctly?

Hmm maybe we could put both of ours together and get a good one - mine vibrates on the upshift!

Clutch cable adjusted ? should have less than 1\" free play at the pedal . Otherwise , it's syncros . Oh wait ......are you possibly getting reverse?
Is it a real hurst? If it's a cheep imitation I'd bet your hitting reverse.

clutch dragging or ditch the synthetic oil and use a mineral based gl4 gear oil 80-90 weight penzoil or a more expensive kenndal brand,if i remember for some reason stock vw syncros don't like synthetic, leave that oil for the race cars
