Puerto Vallarta aircooled rental?
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:05:16 AM »
I'm heading to Puerto Vallarta with the wife for 19 nights on Monday.
:party1:
Never been to Mexico yet and I'm thinking it would be great to rent a Bug or a Thing for a day or two to drive around PV. Anybody with any experience or recommendation? I know they are disappearing as rentals but they are still out there!

Where in PV are you staying? you can rent manx type buggies on the main road into old PV just before the malecon (couple blocks before Mcdonalds) They are pretty beat but may be worth checking out. I've rented Beetles there a bunch of times, not sure where to find them anymore. You will see small rental car places along the street and at your hotel. Just ask there.

You may even see a few of these running around....

Staying at Playa Los Arcos here:

Manx would be nice too. Rented one in Hawaii and had a blast.
Never seen those in the photo, cool! NB based fiberglass body with aircooled underpinnings?

Anything VW related to see while down there? We were joking we'd come back with luggage stuffed with VW parts.  ;D

ahh yes!

yes those NB buggies have AC drivetrain.

If you want a good dinner out... Go to Cafe de Ola. It's a few blocks from where your staying. We always order the platter, lobster, ribs etc.... very good and priced well.

I am serious about the donkey.
Cafe olla is awesome. Great reccomendation.
You can't beat afternoon buckets of beer at CC's right beside the dock.

Ok, what's the story with the donkey? I have a pic of myself riding a donkey naked(but I'm 3 years old).  ;D

I will definitely go to Cafe De Olla.

A bar called Andales, across from where your staying ,is where you go to get drunk and listen to your favorite 80's music.
At around 9 or 10 at night an old guy will come in with a donkey, and charge people 10 bucks a ride. You get on, and he walks you around the bar . all your friends take pictures ,and use them against you for the rest of your life.

Aaaaahh, ok. Now it makes sense. LOL
After my last post, I was starting to think we're talking about one of those Mexican donkey shows.  :-X

I think I might be renting one of these...

We came back on Saturday after 20 days in PV. All in all, it was a great trip. Thanks for all the input and help! Playa Los Arcos is definitely recommended, great atmosphere and nice people. Best all inclusive food I've had.
I thought I'd post a few snapshots.

View from our room:

Restaurant view and Los Arcos Hotel's beach:

Waves get huge down there. Here's a mediocre one.

Went sailing, horseback riding etc...

Hotel's resident iguanas, love these guys!

And of course, VW stuff.
VW dealership with some neat models

I wish we got these here - Crossfox. They look pretty neat with the optional off roady stuff on them(this one doesn't have it).

And our rental...
