« on: November 25, 2009, 05:30:40 PM »
Purchasing a 220volt  3 phase machine that runs at 23 amps 3 phase.....I have single phase 220 in my shop.......what size phase converter is needed to run this on 220 volt single phase.   I'm not finding any calculators on line for this.

I think you need a phase converter that will match the HP of the motor you are converting.
23 amps on three phase.. thats a big motor! I'm guessing 10 to 15 HP?? what kind of machine is it?

Last machine I did, I used a static/electronic phase converter for a 2HP motor and it cost 400 bucks!!
In some cases its cheaper to change out the motor.

Good luck.

Its one machine with a combination of  4 motors.  The amp rating is off the main machine id plate so thats what I have to go by.  It  has one 5hp, and 3 - 1hp motors

Have a look at this.

From their site:
(On heavily loaded or hard-start applications, such as high-speed geared-head lathes and air conditioning compressors, the nameplate rating of the converter you choose should be 2 to 3 times the HP of the most heavily loaded motor. For application assistance, please call our technical support group at (570) 546-9663.)
