when I was a youngster, We could not affort the full setup and most people would have parts. we would get toguether and built an engine with what was available for the whole purpose of racing an Anglia, Cortina, Datsun, or Mazda R100 at some airport using airplane fuel. Most racing VWs had a 1835cc and the best VW (in Puerto Rico) was a VW named the Banana and ran under10 secs (at sea level) at the time (I have no idea of the displacement or engine size.)
Now days, there are countless ways to built and configure your car as well as many new safety requirements and while most of us still can't affort to go wild the enjoyment still the same and I feel like a 17 year old when I am around it.
