Rear Seat Identification- Beetle
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:27:33 PM »
I have two rear seat sets. The first seat back has the mounting bolt arms that point forward. The second has arms that piont down. Is the first a 54-64, and the other from a later beetle? Will both sets bolt into the same year car?

This seat back looks like my first

What year is your car?The 2nd seat is late, but I can't tell what year without seeing the backside.Does it have a clear plastic handle on the drivers side and a round bar hook on each side? if it does it is around 68& later. They can fit ,but not well.If yours is an earlier car than that ,then I'd use the early style.

ok I have pics of two rear seat backs, both look different. Did the seat bottoms change when the backs did?  I need to make sure when I buy new covers I have 58-64 seat frames

Thanks Cole

OK, the seat bottoms are quite interchangeable .The backs are more different.Early backs have a rounder radius on the front face corners at the top and measure 49 in.wide (58-64)Later(65-73)are 46in.wide and have squarish top front corners.Get it?If not let me know .I would suggest using the red velvet/black seats you have. They're Sweeeet!

thanks for the help, so it looks like I have a set of 58-64,  67-68 and  68-later seats. I will use the early style seats with the solid redish-brown colour for my 62
