Hey all,

Just wondering if anybody knows a good place where I can get my floor pans replaced in my 73 Super Beetle. The quotes I've gotten so far are $2000. I'm a student, and that kind of cash is hard to come by at the moment.

Know of any body shops that can do a good job for less?

Im sure you can cut that cost down by a ton if you did some of the work yourself.

If you are daily driving this car then it may be difficult, if its a project of yours then you can take the body off the frame (pan), not as difficult as it sounds, and deliver the pan itself to the shop, that would make it pretty simple, cut and weld.

that way you should be able to do it for about $500ish- $1000 maximum id say, take it home, spray the pan yourself with some por15, mate the body and your good to go.

That is an idea. Problem is, with this lovely weather, and it being a daily driver, it makes it a bit difficult. Not sure how to properly support the body if I were to remove the frame on my own, as I've heard horror stories of bodies bending out of shape. Also, I don't have any welding experience, so installing the floor and all myself seems out of my scope.
Know of any mechanics/body shop guys that would do it for less?

I got a quote from Vairo's for around 2000$ and the same from Duane's German Autohaus. Not sure who'd do a better job, or if I even should go through with it.

If I have no choice I'm prepared to do so simply since I love my car and want to see her running again, and getting a new car or another project car would be starting over and seems like I'd be throwing away too much.

It's pretty steep only working weekends and going to school the rest of the time.

as long as your heater channels are SOLID (not rusty) then removing the body with the doors intact will be fine.

Quality work costs. How much quality are you willing to sacrifice?

The pan halves and other materials are at least $500. So Jakub's estimate of $500-1000 is way off.
